Millennium Stadium Visit
Saturday 13th September 2008

PRESS RELEASE

Although the new junior rugby season is only 1 week old, Crickhowell junior RFC has already started with winning ways. The junior section of the club is only 1 year old and has a catchment area covering only 6 or 7 schools but their ideas are on a grand scale.
The team plays in the heart of Wales league, which extends from Merthyr to Talgarth. There was no game this weekend and so they made a plea to the Millennium Stadium to be granted access for a training session on the pitch. To their surprise the stadium manager granted their request and the team trained on the hallow turf in front of 78,000 seats. This was the first time in the stadiums history that such a thing has happened and so the experience was unique.
Chairman Dean Williams said, ‘’they put us in the Welsh dressing room, it was great for the 30 youngsters who attended to warm up in the changing rooms and then to run down the tunnel and out onto the pitch. Although there was a bit of a rush to get changed in Ryan Jones, the Welsh captains seat’’.
The stadium set up full acoustics for the visit, with noise being played back over the sound system from the last England verses Wales game, complete with national anthem and all the usual rugby song echoing around the stadium. Coach Andy Thomas said, ‘’hopefully this wont be the last time that one of the lads runs out here. We presently have 3 lads in the Powys regional set up and who knows what the future holds. Training is normally on a Wednesday evening starting at 6pm at Broyd parc and it would be lovely to see more children swelling our numbers. We run teams from 8 – 14 years and with days to remember like this we hope that the future is an exciting one’’. Anyone interested in joining can contact us on 07792 410002.

Many thanks to the stadium staff and all who organised and helped out.
